The International Seminar
From Peril to Promise: how higher education
can deliver
Tuesday 19 March - Saturday 23 March 2002
About the Seminar
Following the report's success, many are now asking
"what next?". The British Council International Seminar,
From Peril to Promise: how higher education can deliver, will help
answer that question.
The seminar will bring together a high-level group of policy makers,
educationalists, donors and higher education experts. It will focus
on educational reform projects in developing (and transitional)
countries, allowing intensive discussion of what works, what doesn't
work, and why.
Most work will be done in small discussion groups, with the emphasis
on the skills and knowledge of participants, rather than external
speakers. The seminar will provide an ideal forum for sharing ideas
and best practice, and for networking between a multinational audience.
Dissemination will be through a conference report, which will act
as a follow up volume to "Peril and Promise", and via
the British Council and Task Force websites.
The seminar is run by the British Council in partnership with the
World Bank, the UK Department for International Development and
the Association of Commonwealth Universities, with the Times Higher
Education Supplement acting as media partner.
